2021-22 PREP DAYS AND SCHOOL INFORMATION

Gator Family,

We are excited about the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year! I know you have questions about the COVID guidelines for school, and as soon as we have official information from the district, we will share that with you.  Rest assured, we will be ready to welcome all students back on Tuesday, August 10.  As always, if you have questions, you can email an administrator.

Schedules and first day of school: We are still leveling classes and moving courses around, which causes student schedules to change. To get the most accurate schedule, students should check their schedule in PowerSchool Monday night or even Tuesday morning. They should take a screen shot, print it out or write it down and bring it to school. Students can report to the commons if they would like to eat free breakfast. Freshmen and sophomores should remain in the commons and courtyard and juniors and seniors can report to the Gold Dome or patio until the bell rings at 7:30 to report to first block.

Career Center Students: Any STA student enrolled in any of the Career Center classes (Drones, HVAC, Criminal Justice) must report to the Commons for first block on the first day of school for a mandatory meeting with Mrs. Boudreaux and Mrs. Sutton (McCormick). Students WILL NOT report to the Career Center on the first day of school. We will review all Career Center policies and expectations at that time.

Buses: If you have a student riding the bus, we ask that you and your student download the app HERE COMES THE BUS. (Instructions, including the necessary school code, are attached.) It is a GPS system that helps you locate the bus, provides arrival times, and sends push notifications for when the bus is near. Please note that if your student is riding a different bus due to an emergency route, you may not get notifications. If you still have not completed our bus registration form, please do so by following this link: https://forms.gle/dK1QzSGAc4njGX2d6. If you have already completed the form, you do not need to do it again. If you have trouble accessing the form, try while NOT on wifi. Some personal wifi connections block the link. You will be notified of pickup time and bus number prior to the first day of school. Please remember that there is a federal MANDATE that students wear a face covering while riding the bus. If you have questions about buses, please email Valerie.hall@apsb.org.  Here comes the Bus

Car rider routes: The maps can be found on the St. Amant High School App and are attached to this email. We have 1000+ vehicles trying to get into and out of the same area at the same time, so THERE WILL BE TRAFFIC. Please allow time to get to school by 7:30. Traffic starts to get congested by 7:10. The routes that we have set up will help to ensure that our students and staff are safe and that traffic flows smoothly. When someone deviates from the route, traffic issues worsen. Please study the map carefully and spend some time reviewing our procedures so that you are aware of our process for morning and afternoon because they are different. Morning and afternoon traffic are hectic and busy. Many of our students have received their permit but please do not let your child drive to school and then hold up the line while you are switching drivers. We ask that students are prepared to exit the car and move toward entering the campus as quickly as possible as to not create unnecessary wait time and congestion in the car rider lines. We also ask that you pull up as far as you can before your child exits or enters the vehicle so we can keep as much traffic off the main roads as possible.  Traffic Maps

A few points of interest:  The morning bell rings at 7:30 and the tardy bell rings at 7:35. Students cannot be dropped off before 7:00.  Adult supervision of students is an issue before this time. If a student is more than 5 minutes late, he/she should report to the attendance office.  It is not necessary for you to escort them inside as they can sign themselves in. Students who ride a bus and those that drive are dismissed at 2:42. All other students are dismissed at 2:47. This allows our buses to leave our campus in a timely manner so that they are not late for their primary routes.  If a student leaves on the bus bell, and does not report to the buses, he/she will receive a behavior clinic.

Parking – If your child will drive to school and was unable to get a parking pass at prep day, they may complete the application online and come to the student office to receive their parking pass.  Students will need their license, proof of insurance, and vehicle registration to receive their parking tag. You must pay the fee online. Students will be warned and issued STA parking citations for inappropriate and unsafe driving. Student parking privileges may be revoked at any time if a student is deemed to be an unsafe and uncooperative driver on our campus. For questions, please email Kellie.gonzales@apsb.org

Student Handbook and Bell Schedules – Attached are the district and school student handbooks. Please familiarize yourself with our policies and procedures. Our bell schedules are included in the school handbook. We will run an advisory schedule every other Wednesday and that is an alternate schedule.  Early dismissals are usually twice a month and are also alternate schedules.  Students who participate in special programs are responsible for being in class at the correct times on those days. District handbook STA Student Handbook

School Map – I have attached a school map for you to help your child find their classes and determine the best route to get to them.  You will need to zoom in to see the numbers. school map

Dress Code: Once students receive their IDs, they will be expected to wear them every day, all day, on campus. Failure to do so will result in a behavior clinic for every offense. Students may purchase temporary IDs for $1 and a back up ID for $5. If your child cannot purchase a temp, please tell them to report to the office to see an administrator at the beginning of the day. I have attached a flyer with dress code reminders.  If your child needs a mask for the bus or to wear to school, please note that according to district policy it must be plain in design, with the only the school’s name, letters, mascot, or logo.  Dress code/cell phone

Cell Phone Policy: On that same attachment is our district cell phone policy. Students may have their phones at school, but they can only be used by students when the teacher gives the student permission to do so for instructional purposes.  They are not allowed to use cell phones before school, between classes, and at lunch time.  Cell phones should not be seen unless they are in class and a teacher allows students to use them.  As per school board policy, cell phones must be picked up by a parent.  Cell phone retrieval is done on Tuesday and Friday ONLY from 12:30 – 2:30 and there is a $10 administrative fee. All money collected is used to support our student PBIS rewards program.

Checking outA parent/guardian, or person(s) designated on the student’s checkout list in PowerSchool, must come to school to check out the student. They may come to sign the student out prior to the checkout time. For security purposes, any person asking to check out a student must show a picture ID. Only those designated on the student’s checkout list in PowerSchool will be allowed to check out a student.  If the names on the checkout list need to be modified, the parent/guardian must come to school to do so in person. Students who are emancipated must have permission of the principal to check out. Students may sign themselves out if they have an appointment card. They must bring their appointment card to the attendance clerk before school to receive their check-out pass. This eliminates the need for a parent to come to school to sign the student out.

Class Fees: Students may begin paying their class fees online once they begin classes.  If you did not attend prep day, you may also go online and pay the $20 administration fee. The Southeastern Dual Enrollment tuition must be paid by the deadline, or the student will be dropped from the Southeastern Dual Enrollment class.  The list of class fees is attached for your convenience.  Fees

Returning Student Information Update: you should have received an email to update your student information profile sheet.  Please complete this process so that your records are up to date in our system.  If you do not have an accurate or current email address in our system, you would not have received the email.  For those who did not receive the email, you may call 391-6000 to receive a SNAPCODE to complete your update.

Dates To Remember: Attached are the most current Dates to Remember, which includes dates for key events during the school year.  Dates are subject to change, and you will be sent an updated Dates to Remember if dates change and when events are added.  Please keep this for your reference throughout the year.  2021-22 Dates to Remember
